John D. Perkins
Instrument Cornet, Trumpet, Piccolo Trumpet
John D. Perkins teaches applied trumpet and horn, directs brass ensembles, and teaches music history at Central Methodist University. He also serves as a Staff Reviewer of Recordings for the International Trumpet Guild Journal. Previously, Perkins taught at Shippensburg University, Angelo State University, a San Antonio area school district, and The University of Texas as a Graduate Assistant of Trumpet under Mr. Raymond Crisara.
Versatile as a player, Perkins has held positions and performed in countless ensembles, including symphonies, brass quintets/ensembles, pit orchestras, and big bands. He has enhanced several church services and has performed in solo settings in Missouri, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Perkins currently plays principal trumpet in the Shippensburg Festival Orchestra (PA), and has performed with well-known artists and conductors such as Stuart Malina, Joshua Bell, Frederica von Stade, Andre Watts, David Amado, Elizabeth Schulze, Lauren Curnow, Neal Corwell, Allen Vizzutti, David Hickman, Sam Pilafian, Michael Johnson, Louis Lane, Shinik Hahm, and Karel Husa.
Perkins earned degrees from The University of Texas at Austin (D.M.A.), The University of Wisconsin - Madison (M.M.), and St. Cloud State University (B.S.). He holds memberships in the International Trumpet Guild, College Music Society, Music Educator’s National Conference, and the Missouri Music Educators Association.
